     Amee Holiday was born on 6 May 1703 at Suffield, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of William Holiday and Anna Ellis. Amee Holiday married Samuel Ellsworth II, son of Samuel Ellsworth and Elizabeth Allen, on 2 December 1746 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Amee Holiday died in 1778 at Pittsford, Rutland Co., VT.

     Susanna Porter was born in 1754. She was the daughter of Lt. James Porter and Elizabeth (?). Susanna Porter married Elijah Ellsworth, son of Samuel Ellsworth and Elizabeth Allen, in 1775 at NH.

     Deanna Bowman lists Ammarantz' last name as 'probably' Strickland. Ammarantze Strickland married Joseph Ellsworth, son of Josias Ellsworth and Martha Gaylord.

     Anna Ellsworth was the daughter of Joseph Ellsworth and Ammarantze Strickland.

     Joseph Ellsworth was the son of Joseph Ellsworth and Ammarantze Strickland.

     Tryphena Ellsworth was the daughter of Joseph Ellsworth and Ammarantze Strickland.

     Judah Ellsworth was the son of Joseph Ellsworth and Ammarantze Strickland.

     Mary Coggins married Samuel Barber, son of Sgt. Thomas Barber and Jane (?), on 1 December 1670 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Mary Coggins died on 19 May 1676.

     Ruth Drake was born on 1 December 1657 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of John Drake and Hannah Moore. Ruth Drake married Samuel Barber, son of Sgt. Thomas Barber and Jane (?), on 25 January 1677. Ruth Drake died on 13 November 1731 at age 73.

     Elizabeth Barber was born on 9 February 1684/85 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Samuel Barber and Ruth Drake. Elizabeth Barber married Daniel Loomis, son of Sgt. Daniel Loomis and Mary Ellsworth, on 10 November 1709 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.

     Samuel Holcombe was born circa 1773 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.^1,2 He was the son of Timothy Holcombe and Elizabeth Griffin. Samuel Holcombe died in 1855 at Greenbrier Co., VA.

Sam'l was enumerated in the 1850 District 18, Greenbrier Co., VA federal census. He was 76 and living alone.

Michael O'Farrell disputes McPherson's claim:

McPherson claims that, in the census of 1850, Samuel Holcomb is enumerated, Greenbrier Co, "as b in Conn, 76 years old". This is in error. The surviving copy of the return clearly shows his birthplace as Virginia, though whether this is correct is another question entirely. McPherson also claims that the 1850 shows Samuel "living as nearest neighbor to Sarah Holcomb" and this too is incorrect. The copy archived on microfilm -- which by the way does not appear to be the original -- actually reads, "Lara Halcom". The name is almost certainly either a misreading, or a mishearing, of Leah Holcomb or some variation thereon. She was the widow of Henry Holcomb -- McPherson's A-4-5-2-3-3-1-3, proven son of Samuel Holcomb -- and the seven children enumerated in her household are assumed to be hers.

This Samuel was dead in Greenbrier Co by May court, 1855, and I find eight proven children:

 3. Nancy (Holcomb) Airy, wife of Anthony
 4. Henry Holcomb
 5. Agness (Holcomb) Kincaid, wife of Lanty
 6. Samuel Holcomb
 7. John Holcomb
 8. Sarah "Sally" (Holcomb) Airy, wife of William

I see no evidence of other children, at least none surviving into adulthood. The order of birth is my best guess, so far. Agness and William were born in Nelson Co, Va, and I assume Nancy and probably Hannah were born there as well. Sally was born in Greenbrier Co. I have not yet determined precisely when this family arrived there, so I am unsure about the other two children. Son Samuel is the ancestor of Jim Schultz above, and Samuel and wife Mary were residents of Winneshiek Co, Iowa, at the time of his father's death. There seems to be no remaining doubts on this matter.

However, as you may have guessed from the above, we must question whether Samuel Holcomb of Greenbrier Co is really a son of Timothy and Elizabeth (Griffin) Holcomb. If you locate Nelson Co, Va, on a map you may get the feeling that Samuel could, at least conceivably, have been a descendant of those other Virginia Holcombes, and unrelated to our Connecticut Holcombes at all. It is at least something that must be considered, probably in light of whatever might be recorded east of the Blue Ridge.

     Elizabeth Holcombe was born in 1777 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.^2,3 She was the daughter of Timothy Holcombe and Elizabeth Griffin. Elizabeth Holcombe married Ezekial Alderman, son of Daniel Alderman and Thankful Griffin, on 17 July 1791 at Greenbrier Co., VA. Elizabeth Holcombe died in 1863.²

Elizabeth and Ezekial moved to that part of Virginia which later became West Virginia, about 1814, and were perhaps the progenitors of a branch of Aldermans now residing in West Virginia who know little about their early ancestry and who have not been able to connect definitely with the other branches of the family. Ezekiel, the younger, was in the American army during the War of 1812 and died in camp at Norfolk, VA. Daniel had issue six boys and three girls; Solomon had issue three boys and four girls; and of the other children of Ezekiel we had learned nothing. ⁴

     Ezekial Alderman was born on 26 February 1772 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Daniel Alderman and Thankful Griffin. Ezekial Alderman married Elizabeth Holcombe, daughter of Timothy Holcombe and Elizabeth Griffin, on 17 July 1791 at Greenbrier Co., VA. Ezekial Alderman died in 1863.¹

     Rosanna Holcombe was born circa 1776 at Salisbury, Litchfield Co., CT.^1,2 She was the daughter of Timothy Holcombe and Elizabeth Griffin.

     Ethan Allen Holcombe was born circa 1789 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.^2,3 He was the son of Timothy Holcombe and Elizabeth Griffin. Ethan Allen Holcombe married Susan Hughes at Bath Co., VA.³

Ethan took as "Ethan" Nov. 14, 1817 from this brother, Timothy Holcombe II for lands in Greenbrier Co., VA, one for 100 acres on S. Fork of Beaver Creek, the other for 100 acres on the S. fork of Beaver Lick Creek, a branch of Greenbrier River, adjoining Roger Gum. Some reports are that Ethan Allen lived at the mouth of Adonage, Big Sycamore, Clay Co., WV.

Ethan and Susan were enumerated in the 1850 Nicholas Co., VA federal census. He was a farmer, age 61, she was 56. The only child in the household was Franklin, 12.

Ethan and Susan were enumerated in the 1860 Clay Co., VA federal census. He was a farmer, age 72, born in CT, she was 67. Enumerated nearby were John and James and their families.

     Susan Hughes was born circa 1793 at Bath Co., VA.¹ She married Ethan Allen Holcombe, son of Timothy Holcombe and Elizabeth Griffin, at Bath Co., VA.¹ Susan Hughes died in 1862 at Clay or Nicholas Co., WV.¹

     Elizabeth Holcombe was born circa 1802 at Greenbrier Co., VA.¹ She was the daughter of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut.

     John Holcombe was born in 1804 at Greenbrier Co., VA. He was the son of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut.

     Chestnut Wade Holcombe was born in 1806 at Greenbrier Co., VA.¹ He was the son of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut.

     Hezekiah Holcombe was born circa 1809 at Bath Co., VA.^1,2 He was the son of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut.

     Norman Holcombe was born on 18 October 1812 at Greenbrier Co., VA.¹ He was the son of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut. Norman Holcombe died on 19 July 1858 at age 45.¹

     Joseph Holcombe was born circa 1813 at Greenbrier Co., VA.¹ He was the son of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut.

     Sophia Holcombe was born in 1814 at Greenbrier Co., VA.¹ She was the daughter of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut. Sophia Holcombe died on 10 January 1892.

      Mary Holcombe was also known as Polly Holcombe. She was born on 17 February 1815 at Greenbrier Co., VA.¹ She was the daughter of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut. Mary Holcombe died in October 1862 at age 47.¹

     Samuel Holcombe was born circa 1821 at Greenbrier Co., VA.¹ He was the son of Timothy Holcombe II and Mary A. Chesnut. Samuel Holcombe died before 1870.¹

     Amos Cecil Holcombe died D.Y. He was born in 1876. He was the son of Charles Timothy Holcombe and Celia Ellen Wahnsidel.

     Ruth Sandy was born in 1884. She was the daughter of John Sandy and Emma Holcombe.

     Myrtle Sandy was born in 1886. She was the daughter of John Sandy and Emma Holcombe.

     Harvey Sandy was born in 1888. He was the son of John Sandy and Emma Holcombe.

     Francis Sandy was born circa 1892. Francis Sandy was the child of John Sandy and Emma Holcombe.

     Ivy Blanch Holcombe was born on 23 September 1894. She was the daughter of James Earnest Holcombe and Clara Esther Black. Ivy Blanch Holcombe died on 5 May 1900 at age 5.

     Elsie Gertrude Holcombe was born on 29 December 1896. She was the daughter of James Earnest Holcombe and Clara Esther Black.

     Ray Earnest Holcombe was born on 14 March 1899. He was the son of James Earnest Holcombe and Clara Esther Black.

     Harley Jerrel Holcombe was born on 4 May 1904. He was the son of James Earnest Holcombe and Clara Esther Black.
