     Ledyard Chappell was born on 7 February 1798. He was the son of Isaac Chaapel and Tamasin Wilcox. Ledyard Chappell married Celestia Holcombe, daughter of Alpheus Holcombe and Hannah Kingsbury, on 6 February 1829. Ledyard Chappell died on 21 September 1874 at age 76.

Ledyard is recorded in the 1840 census of LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA, with total household of 4 males and 3 females.

     Paulina Beardsley was born on 8 August 1818. She married Myron Holcombe, son of Alpheus Holcombe and Hannah Kingsbury, on 27 September 1835. Paulina Beardsley died on 1 April 1889 at age 70.¹

     Berlin Holcombe was born on 3 July 1836. He was the son of Myron Holcombe and Paulina Beardsley. Berlin Holcombe married Almira (?) on 27 February 1859. Berlin Holcombe married Lucretia (?) circa 1875.² Berlin Holcombe died in 1923.³

Berlin was recorded in the 1850 census of Leroy, Bradford Co., PA, age 13, in the household of his father, Myron.


Berlin and Almira were enumerated in the 1870 Leroy, Bradford Co., PA, census. He was a carpenter, age 34, she was 38. Children in the household were Charlie 9, Maude 7, and LaVerne(sp?) 3.


Berlin and Lucretia were enumerated in the 1880 Leroy, Bradford Co., PA, federal census. He was 43, she was 30. Children in the household were Charles L. 19, and Jesse 13


Berlin and Lucretia were enumerated in the 1900 LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA, federal census. He was a farmer age 63; she was 50. There were no children in the household. This is apparently a second marriage for Berlin.

     Elgibree Holcombe was born on 27 November 1837. Elgibree Holcombe was the child of Myron Holcombe and Paulina Beardsley.

There was a Kellog family living in the household of Myron Holcombe in the 1870 census of LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA. May have been Elgibree and her family, but no supporting data, and there is another Kellog family living nearby.

     Lorin was recorded in the 1850 census of LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA, age 11, in the household of his father, Myron. Lorin Holcombe was born on 2 October 1839. He was the son of Myron Holcombe and Paulina Beardsley. Lorin Holcombe died on 22 December 1864 at age 25.

     Hollis H. Holcombe was born on 10 November 1841. He was the son of Myron Holcombe and Paulina Beardsley. Hollis H. Holcombe married Lucinda (?). Hollis H. Holcombe died on 8 November 1889 at age 47.²

Hollis was recorded in the 1850 census of Leroy, age 8, in the household of his father, Myron.

Hollis was recorded in the 1870 census of Leroy, Bradford Co., PA, as a farmer and carpenter, owning real estate of $2,000.

     Roxy was recorded in the 1850 census of LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA, age 6, in the household of her father, Myron. Roxy A. Holcombe was born on 4 November 1844. She was the daughter of Myron Holcombe and Paulina Beardsley.

     Almira (?) was born say 1836 at PA. She married Berlin Holcombe, son of Myron Holcombe and Paulina Beardsley, on 27 February 1859.

     Charles Holcombe was born say 1860 at PA. He was the son of Berlin Holcombe and Almira (?).

     

The LeRoy cemetery has a Laverne and Maude Holcombe buried together with identical dates of 1885 and 1972 on their stones. Maud Holcombe was born say 1862 at PA. She was the daughter of Berlin Holcombe and Almira (?).

     LaVerne Holcombe was born say 1866. She was the daughter of Berlin Holcombe and Almira (?).

     Lucinda (?) was born say 1839 at PA. She married Hollis H. Holcombe, son of Myron Holcombe and Paulina Beardsley.

     C. C. Holcombe was born say 1867 at PA. He was the son of Hollis H. Holcombe and Lucinda (?).

     Sperry Holcombe was born say 1869 at PA. She was the daughter of Hollis H. Holcombe and Lucinda (?).

     Hannah Andrews was born in December 1772; Based on age at death. She married Jared Holcombe, son of Eli Holcombe and Hannah Crofut. Hannah Andrews died on 1 August 1838 at Ulster, Bradford Co., PA, at age 65.¹

     Martha (?) was born in 1800. She married Jared Holcombe, son of Eli Holcombe and Hannah Crofut. Martha (?) died in 1865.

     Franklin von Norstrand Shaw was born in 1843. He was the son of Harry Shaw and Mary Snyder. Franklin von Norstrand Shaw married Viola Alfretta Bryant in 1870. Franklin von Norstrand Shaw died in 1921.

     Viola Alfretta Bryant was born in 1851. She married Franklin von Norstrand Shaw, son of Harry Shaw and Mary Snyder, in 1870. Viola Alfretta Bryant died in 1920.

     Charles E. Shaw was born in 1874. He was the son of Franklin von Norstrand Shaw and Viola Alfretta Bryant. Charles E. Shaw married Matilda Wilhelmina Moser in 1896.

     Matilda Wilhelmina Moser was born in 1875. She married Charles E. Shaw, son of Franklin von Norstrand Shaw and Viola Alfretta Bryant, in 1896.

     Margaret Viola Shaw was born at Maryville, KS. She was the daughter of Charles E. Shaw and Matilda Wilhelmina Moser.

     James S. Crofut was born on 11 March 1791. He was the son of Seeley Crofut and Hannah Holcombe. James S. Crofut married Phoebe Wooster, daughter of Issac Wooster and Mary Perry, on 25 June 1812. James S. Crofut died on 10 February 1873 at age 81.

     Phoebe Wooster was the daughter of Issac Wooster and Mary Perry. Phoebe Wooster married James S. Crofut, son of Seeley Crofut and Hannah Holcombe, on 25 June 1812.

     Issac Wooster married Mary Perry.

Isaac Wooster, like the most of the first settlers of this region, came from Connecticut, and took up a possession under the Connecticut title. He was a man of considerable means, and was considered one of the principal settlers. Some of his descendants still live here.

     Mary Perry married Issac Wooster.

     James Crofut was born. He was the son of James S. Crofut and Phoebe Wooster.

     Lovica Crofut was born. She was the daughter of James S. Crofut and Phoebe Wooster.

     Minerva Crofut was born at LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA. She was the daughter of James S. Crofut and Phoebe Wooster.

     Sarah Crofut was born. She was the daughter of James S. Crofut and Phoebe Wooster.

     Sarah Crofut was born on 12 February 1793. She was the daughter of Seeley Crofut and Hannah Holcombe. Sarah Crofut died on 3 November 1809 at LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA, at age 16.

     Ira Crofut was born on 2 November 1803 at LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA. He was the son of Seeley Crofut and Hannah Holcombe. Ira Crofut married Maria Merry, daughter of Truman Merry and Olive Underwood, on 22 February 1835 at Troy, Bradford Co., PA. Ira Crofut died on 12 August 1845 at age 41.

At a meeting of male citizens at the formation of the town, Ira suggested the name "LeRoy" meaning "The King" and it was adopted by a vote.

     Luman D. Taylor was born on 28 November 1820. He was the son of Jeremiah Taylor and Mary White. Luman D. Taylor married Betsey Matilda Holcombe, daughter of Sterling Holcombe and Betsey Stone, on 22 December 1845 at LeRoy, Bradford Co., PA.¹ Luman D. Taylor died on 2 March 1892 at age 71.

     Phineas W. Holcombe was born say 1806 at PA. He was the son of Alpheus Holcombe and Hannah Kingsbury.

Probably the P.W. Holcombe recorded in the 1840 census of LeRoy, Bradford Co., Pa with a total of two males and three females in the household.


Phinehas W. was recorded in the 1850 census of LeRoy, age 43, as a farmer with wife and three sons. Son Alpheus makes placement of this family most likely correct.


There is a Phineas W. Holcomb enumerated in Cedar Springs, Kent Co., MI in the 1880 census, age 74, born in PA; with Edward R 36 and Eugene 12 in the same household.

     Eliasaph Shaw was born on 9 April 1819.¹ She was the daughter of Ebenezer Shaw and Cynthia Holcombe.
