     Patience Case married Capt. David Barber, son of David Barber and Hannah Post, on 8 March 1738/39 at Hebron, Tolland Co., CT.

     David Barber was born on 12 May 1686 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Samuel Barber and Ruth Drake. David Barber died on 7 November 1729 at Hebron, Tolland Co., CT, at age 43.

     George Seymour Goddard was born on 17 June 1865 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Harvey Goddard and Sabra Lavinia Beach. George Seymour Goddard married Kate Estelle Dewey, daughter of Watson Dewey and Ellen Jane Beebe, on 23 June 1897 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT. George Seymour Goddard died on 12 February 1936 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 70. He was buried on 14 February 1936 at Center Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.

George attended Granby public schools and Wesleyan Academy, Wilbraham, Massachusets; received an A.B. from Wesleyan Univeristy in Middletown, Connecticut in 1892; and attended Garrett Biblical Institute at Northwestern University 1892-94. He transferred to yale Divinity School in the fall of 1894, receiving a B.D. from Yale University in 1895. He was later to receive honorary M.A.s from Wesleyan in 1912 and Trinity Colege in 1919.

Godard taught school in Granby in 1882-83 and enrolled at Wesleyan in fall of 1887; however, he left at the end of his junior year to "assist in the building and installation of the Cossitt Library n North Granby". He ws appointed librarian of the Cossitt Library in Granby in 1890. In August 1898, godard became asistant to State Librarian Charles J. Hoadly. Following Hoadly's death in November 1900, he was appointed State Librarian.

For genealogists and historians, Godard is best remembered as the person who envisioned a set of genealogical indexes and hired Lucius B. Barbour and Charles R. Hale to spearhead those projects.

     Kate Estelle Dewey was born circa 1863 at CT.¹ She was the daughter of Watson Dewey and Ellen Jane Beebe. Kate Estelle Dewey married George Seymour Goddard, son of Harvey Goddard and Sabra Lavinia Beach, on 23 June 1897 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.

     Watson Dewey was born circa 1814 at CT.¹ He married Ellen Jane Beebe.


Watson and Ellen were enumerated in the 1860 Granby, Hartford Co., CT, census with George M. age 19 (Ellen was 27), Betsey, age 4, and Edward, age 2.

The Granby Vital records show a marriage of Watson Dewey to Jane Alderman in 1840, despite little other proof, that marriage and family are placed here.

     Ellen Jane Beebe was born circa 1833 at CT.¹ She married Watson Dewey.

     George Dewey Goddard was born on 8 August 1899. He was the son of George Seymour Goddard and Kate Estelle Dewey. George Dewey Goddard died in September 1982 at Marblehead, Essex Co., MA, at age 83.²

     Paul Beach Goddard was born on 17 February 1901. He was the son of George Seymour Goddard and Kate Estelle Dewey. Paul Beach Goddard died in April 1968 at West Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 67.²

     Mary Katherine Goddard was born on 3 October 1903. She was the daughter of George Seymour Goddard and Kate Estelle Dewey. Mary Katherine Goddard married Earl Dresser. Mary Katherine Goddard married Richard Francis Hadley. Mary Katherine Goddard died in January 1979 at West Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 75.²

     Earl Dresser married Mary Katherine Goddard, daughter of George Seymour Goddard and Kate Estelle Dewey.

     Richard Francis Hadley married Mary Katherine Goddard, daughter of George Seymour Goddard and Kate Estelle Dewey.

     Carol Laun, curator of the Salomn Brook Historical Society, has Ebenezer Seymour Holcombe's account book which shows his step son, Solomon Dwight Foster, in Pittsburgh, 1833. Solomon Dwight Foster was the son of (?) Foster and Almira Alderman. Solomon Dwight Foster married Lydia Holcombe, daughter of Luman Holcombe and Chloe Alderman, on 9 October 1833 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Chloe Alderman was born on 20 May 1782.¹ She was the daughter of Epaphras Alderman and Chloe Hayes. Chloe Alderman married Luman Holcombe, son of Obed Holcombe and Mercy Holcombe. Chloe Alderman died on 10 January 1835 at age 52.¹

     Lydia Holcombe was born at Shenango, Mercer Co., PA. She was the daughter of Luman Holcombe and Chloe Alderman. Lydia Holcombe married Solomon Dwight Foster, son of (?) Foster and Almira Alderman, on 9 October 1833 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Roland Holcombe was born circa 1816 at Shenango, Mercer Co., PA.¹ He was the son of Luman Holcombe and Chloe Alderman. Roland Holcombe married Nancy (?) circa 1847.¹

Roland and Nancy were enumerated in the 1850 Chenango, Broome Co., NY, federal census. He was a farmer, age 33, she was 33. The only child in the household was George, 7 months. Also in the household was Luman Holcombe, 68.

"Rolon M." and Nancy A. were enumerated in the 1860 Colesville, Broome Co., NY federal census. He was a farmer, age 39, she was 40. Children in the household were George L. 10, Belton M. 9, Alderman B. 5, and Viola C. 2.

Rolan and Nancy were enumerated in the 1870 Colesville, Broome Co., NY, federal census. He was a farmer, age 52, she was 52. Children in the household were George 20, Burton 19, and Adaline 15.

It appears that Nancy is enumerated in the 1880 Windsor, Broome Co., NY, federal census in the houehold of Edward Harvey, as a servant, age 63.

There was a Burton Holcombe in the 18809 Colesville census, age 28, married to Emma, age 25, with a Phebe West in the household listed as "mother", probably mother-in-law. There is no evidence that this Burton is the same as the son of Roland and Nancy.

     Ruth Holcombe was born at Shenango, Mercer Co., PA. She was the daughter of Luman Holcombe and Chloe Alderman.

     Emily Holcombe was born at Shenango, Mercer Co., PA. She was the daughter of Luman Holcombe and Chloe Alderman.

     Almira Holcombe was born at Shenango, Mercer Co., PA. She was the daughter of Luman Holcombe and Chloe Alderman.

     Benjamin came to New Ipswich abut 1751, where he was a member of the first committee of correspondence and inspection and Lt. of 1st Militia Co. He moved to NY State with son Benjamin II, by 1808. Benjamin Knowlton married Phoebe Wright. Benjamin Knowlton was born on 10 December 1728. He was the son of Rice Knowlton II and Lydia Adams. Benjamin Knowlton died on 31 July 1809 at age 80.

     Phoebe Wright married Benjamin Knowlton, son of Rice Knowlton II and Lydia Adams. Phoebe Wright died in January 1813.

     Rice's ancestry back to England is detailed in McPherson, page 205.1. Rice Knowlton II was born on 27 January 1705. He died in 1762 at Pelham.

     Caroline Holcombe was born in 1812.¹ She was the daughter of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe and Hannah Knowlton. Caroline Holcombe married Ephraim Kyle.¹

     Ishmael Hardy Holcombe II was born in 1816. He was the son of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe and Hannah Knowlton. Ishmael Hardy Holcombe II married Clarinda H. Bunker. Ishmael Hardy Holcombe II died on 10 March 1848 at Perote, Mexico.

Ishmael enlisted, June 7, 1847, Monmouth, Warren Co., IL, reciting age as 31 years, as a private in Capt. Stapp's Co., IL, Mounted Vols; promoted to Sgt.

Ishmael's widow, Clarinda, and her second husband, Jacob L. Buzan, were enumerated in the 1860 Monmouth City, Warren Co., IL, federal census, page 192. Clarinda was 39, Juliette was 18, Amelia 17, Melissa 16, Ellen 14. Clarissa Buzan was 6.

There is another family in the 1860 Monmouth Township, Warren Co., IL, federal census that must be related but how is unknown, but they are listed here to, hopefully identify them later.

H. B. and Phoebe Holcombe were enumerated in the 1860 Monmouth Township, Warren Co., IL, federal census, page 217. He was a master carpenter, born in Ohio, age 43; she was born in New York, age 46. Children in the household were Henrietta J. age 16, Phoebe L. 11, Clarissa M. 9, and Ishmael H. 6.

     Benjamin Franklin Holcombe was born in 1817. He was the son of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe and Hannah Knowlton. Benjamin Franklin Holcombe married Amanda (?).¹

      Berthie W. Holcombe was also known as Bertha W. Holcombe.¹ She was the daughter of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe and Hannah Knowlton.

     Clarinda H. Bunker was born in 1820. She married Ishmael Hardy Holcombe II, son of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe and Hannah Knowlton.

     Juliette Holcombe was born on 17 November 1839. She was the daughter of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe II and Clarinda H. Bunker.

     Amelia Holcombe was born on 22 November 1841. She was the daughter of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe II and Clarinda H. Bunker.

     Melissa Holcombe was born on 10 January 1844. She was the daughter of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe II and Clarinda H. Bunker.

     Mary Ellen Holcombe was born on 31 March 1846. She was the daughter of Ishmael Hardy Holcombe II and Clarinda H. Bunker.

     Mercy Holcombe was born on 9 September 1804. She was the daughter of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber. Mercy Holcombe married an unknown person Arpil 12, 1828.

     Cordelia Holcombe was born on 2 August 1807. She was the daughter of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber.

     Drayton A. Holcombe died young. He was born on 8 April 1811 at Lewis, Essex Co., NY. He was the son of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber.

     Mary Holcombe married Dr. (?) Blyn.¹ Mary Holcombe was born on 22 March 1813 at Lewis, Essex Co., NY. She was the daughter of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber.

     Almon Franklin Holcombe was born on 24 May 1815 at Lewis, Essex Co., NY. He was the son of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber.

     Fayette Holcombe was born in 1817 at Lewis, Essex Co., NY. Fayette Holcombe was the child of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber.

     Harmon Holcombe was born on 19 May 1819 at Lewis, Essex Co., NY. He was the son of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber. Harmon Holcombe died on 8 February 1820.

     Lucinda Holcombe was born on 14 February 1821 at Lewis, Essex Co., NY. She was the daughter of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber. Lucinda Holcombe died on 14 May 1821.

     Harmon moved to Council Bluffs, IA, Nov. 22, 1853. He taught in Mills and Pottawottamie counties, Ia, 1853-57. He moved to Galand' Grove, Shelby co., IA and in Apr. 1858 located at Harlan in Shelby. He was appointed in 1859 Clerk of dist. court in which office he continued until Jan. 1, 1873. Deputy clerk, Seppt. 1877; elected clerk until 1883; first vote, in 1844, was for Henry Clay; acted as county auditor 2 years and as county judge one year. Harmon C. Holcombe was born on 23 June 1823 at Lewis, Essex Co., NY. He was the son of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber. Harmon C. Holcombe married Elizabeth A. McCoy on 22 November 1862. Harmon C. Holcombe died on 10 February 1908 at age 84.

     Elizabeth A. McCoy was born February 22,1830 at Warren Co., OH. She married Harmon C. Holcombe, son of Oliver Holcombe and Martha Barber, on 22 November 1862. Elizabeth A. McCoy died on 2 March 1871.

     Child Holcombe died young. Child Holcombe was the child of Harmon C. Holcombe and Elizabeth A. McCoy.

     William moved May 25, 1893, to Guthrie, OK, whre he engaged as interior decorator. Maud was a widow. William O. Holcombe was born on 30 December 1864 at Harlan, Shelby Co., IA. He was the son of Harmon C. Holcombe and Elizabeth A. McCoy.

     Ephraim Gillette was born in 1791. He married Mary Dyer, daughter of Joseph Dyer and Eunice Holcombe, in 1809.
