Drayton Charles Holcombe died on 26 September 2013 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT, at age 97.2 He was buried on 30 September 2013 at Copper Hill Cemetery, East Granby, Hartford Co., CT.2

Drayton Charles Holcomb, 97, of Suffield and formerly of Granby, beloved husband for 63 years of the late Lois Caroline (Petit) Holcomb, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, (September 26, 2013) in Granby. Born in East Granby on March 2, 1916, son of the late Chester H. and Rebecca M. (Phelps) Holcomb, he was raised on Hungary Road in Granby and had lived in North Granby for many years before moving to Suffield in 1989. After the Connecticut River flooded Hartford in 1936, Drayton took a position with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to restore the areas in the city that were affected by the flood. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army after the outbreak of World War II and served in the 309th Infantry Regiment until his honorable discharge in 1946. Drayton worked as a fabricator of helicopter blades at Kaman Aerospace in Bloomfield for over 21 years until his retirement in 1971. In his spare time, he enjoyed volunteering at the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum in Somers, fishing, riding his bicycle, and spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Granby. Most of all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He leaves two daughters, Holly Condon and her husband John of West Suffield and Judy Holcomb of Brimfield, MA; a brother, George Holcomb and his wife Grace of Fort Worth, TX; a sister, Catherine Gibson Graham and her husband Jim of Green Cove, FL; five grandchildren, Neal Condon, John Condon, Sarah Devine and her husband Christopher, Kirsten Doherty and her husband Peter, and Valerie Keith and her husband Jamey; and seven great grandchildren, Ashley Condon, Nicholas Condon, John Condon, Miranda Condon, Elizabeth Devine, Emma Keith, and Aidan Doherty. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Carlton Holcomb; and a sister, Edith Gibson. His family will receive friends on Monday, September 30, 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will be private in Copper Hill Cemetery, East Granby. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Suffield Emergency Aid Association, 450 South St., Suffield, CT 06078 or to the American Cancer Society , 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.

Edith Caroline Holcombe married George Russell Gibson, son of Earl Elery Gibson and Myrtle Chillson, on 30 August 1941 at Portland, ME. Edith Caroline Holcombe died on 17 January 2009 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 90.3,2 She was buried on 21 January 2009 at Spring at West Suffield Cemetery, West Suffield, Hartford Co., CT.

Edith (Holcomb) Gibson, 90, of Granby, formerly of Suffield, wife of the late George R. Gibson, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, (January 17, 2009) at St. Francis Hospital. A kind, caring, loving, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, she was cherished in life and will be greatly missed by many. Born on April 15, 1918 in East Granby, Edith was the daughter of the late Chester and Rebecca (Phelps) Holcomb. Following her graduation from Simsbury High School in 1936, Edie began a lifetime devoted to family and community service. She was a lifelong member of the Copper Hill United Methodist Church, and an active participant in the Acorn Button Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution in Suffield and the Suffield Historical Society. Edie nurtured her interest in genealogy and photography, and through her passion for reading and writing, became a published poet. She leaves a son, Richard R. Gibson and his wife Carol of East Windsor; a daughter, Rebecca Gibson-Laemel and her husband Robert Laemel of Georgetown, TX; two brothers, Drayton Holcomb of Granby and George Holcomb and his wife Grace Ann of Ft. Worth, TX; a sister, Catherine Graham and her husband, James, of Green Cove Springs, FL, two grandchildren, Kimberly DiCioccio and her husband, David and Bradley Gibson; and four great-grandchildren, Luke DiCioccio, and Cody, Jared, and Jordan Keillor. She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Gibson, a brother, Carlton Holcomb and a grandson, R. A. Gibson. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 11:30 a.m. at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will take place in the Spring at West Suffield Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday prior to the service from 10-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Copper Hill United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, Copper Hill Rd., East Granby, CT.

Carlton C. Holcomb, Sr., 85, of Jupiter, FL, formerly of North Granby, died Monday, (sept. 5, 2005), in Stuart, FL. Born in Suffield, February 17, 1920, son of the late Chester H. and Rebecca (Phelps) Holcomb, he grew up in Granby. He graduated from Simsbury High School in 1938. Carlton sserved in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot during WWII, after 29 years of service he retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves, 905th Group, 337 Troup Carrier Squadron at Westover AFT, as a Lt. Col. and Squadron Commander. He was enployed at Pratt & Whitney for over 20 years, teaching Advance Math in addition to his job as Supervisor of Quality Control. He moved with Pratt & Whitney to Florida a couple of years prior to his retirement in 1979. Carlton served on the Granby Board of Education for 8 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Granby and served on the Building Committee. He was a member of the Granby Ambulance Assn. when it first started, worked on teh Granby Community Fund and was a member of the Granby Lion's Club. In Florida, he was active in Real Estate, community programs including the Rotary International and the Loxahatchee Historical Society where he was fund raising Chairman for the Historical Museum. He was predeceased by his first wife, Vivian (Diters) Holcomb, and his second wife, Jane (Curtiss) Beaumont Holcomb, and a daughter-in-law, Susan Casassa Holcomb. He leaves a son, Carlton C. Holcomb, Jr., of Norfolk; two daughters, Linda Dee and her husband, James White, of Baggs, WY, Susan Holcomb Voudren of Tolland, MA; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter, Madeline. Carlton also leaves two brothers and sisters-in-law, Crayton C. and Lois Holcomb, of West Suffield, George H. and Grace (Honey) Holcomb of Lake Worth, TX; two sisters, Edith Gibson of Suffield and Katherine (Sweatland Gibson) and Jim Graham of Green Cove Springs, FL. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 219 North Granby Road, Granby, with the Reverend Bridget Hughes and Reverend Mark Diters officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Street Cemetery, Granville, MA with full military honors.
