After the Civil War Lucius was stationed for some time at government hospitals in the southwest of Ohio. About 1874 he obtained a home in Bloomington, IL for imself and sister Julia and lived there until his death. Abolitionist John Brown, Lucius' cousin, held him in little esteem because he "had no desire to fight and was content to play nurse and doctor."
