Barbara Parks, wife of National Hot Rod Assn. founder Wally Parks, died of cancer in her Glendale home on Wednesday. She was 82.

Parks was a driving force and a creative influence in the early days of hot-rodding and championship drag racing, according to the National Hot Rod Assn. website.

Although she new little about racing, Parks signed on as her husband's secretary in the 1950's and devoted the remainder of her life nurturing the hobby known as hot-rodding.

She transitioned to a secretary's job at Hot Rod Magazine in Southern California and was introduced to the current and popular trends among car enthusiasts.

In 1955, when the National Championship races were formed, Parks became involved with the planning, preparations, and event promotions.

She was also involved with the structuring of the organization's chartered car clubs program.

     Catharine Viets was born on 5 July 1831.¹ She was the daughter of Byron Viets and Milla Kingsley.¹

     Mary Almira Viets was born on 3 April 1839.¹ She was the daughter of Byron Viets and Milla Kingsley.¹

     Byron Viets was born on 25 January 1802 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Abner Viets Jr. and Sarah Booth.¹ Byron Viets married Milla Kingsley on 28 April 1828 at Fowler, Trumbull Co., OH.¹ Byron Viets died on 28 April 1869 at West Salem, WI, at age 67.¹
