     Charles Gordon Hayes was born on 20 January 1830.¹ He was the son of Rev. Gordon Hayes and Mary Dewey Fassett.¹ Charles Gordon Hayes married Ada Stone (?) on 16 September 1858 at Muscatine Creek, Muscatine Co., IA.² Charles Gordon Hayes died on 8 April 1878 at Des Moines, Polk Co., IA, at age 48.²

Charles graduated Yale, 1851, taught in Bennington, VT, 1851-54; moved to Muscatine, IA, 1855; lawyer and literary pursuits there; later lived Des Moines where he was a scientific writer, specializing in articles on improvement in live stock raising in the West; composer of music. ³

C.G. and Adeline were enumerated in the 1860 Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA, federal census. He was a lawyer, age 30, she was 17. The only child in the household was Fanny F. 6 months. Also in the household was Gordon Hays a Cong. Minister, age 62, and Mary D. Hays 60.

     Adeline Heletia Hayes was born on 11 August 1831.¹ She was the daughter of Rev. Gordon Hayes and Mary Dewey Fassett.¹ Adeline Heletia Hayes married George Churchill, son of Norman Churchill and Anna Eggleston, on 23 August 1858 at Arlington, Bennington Co., VT.²

George and Ada were enumerated in the 1860 Galesburg, Knox, Co., IL, federal census. He was a college professor, age 31, she was 28. Children in the household were Milton 4, and Mary 4 months. Also in the household was D. Hays, 18, a student, apparently Adeline's brother, Daniel.

George and Ellen were enumerated in the 1870 Galesburg, Knox Co., IL, federal census. He was a teacher, age 41, she was 29 born in IL. Children in the household were Milton 13, Charles 7, Nellie 5, and George 4.

There are signifigant differences between the census records and the record of McPherson. It may be that Adeline died and that Ellen is the second wife. The 1880 census may offer clues

George and Ellen were enumerated in the 1880 Galesburg, Knox Co., IL, federal census. He was a teacher, age 50, she was 39. Children in the household were Milton A. 28, Charles E. 17, George 14, step-daughter Nella S. Waltziner 15, and son William D. 3.

Apparently before 1870 Adeline died and George married Mrs. Ellen Waltzner, who had a daughter Nella S. This would have occurred after the births of Nella and George,and after the birth and death of daughter Fanny; so the marriage would have occurred 1867-1870.

     Mary Elizabeth Hayes was born on 31 December 1833.¹ She was the daughter of Rev. Gordon Hayes and Mary Dewey Fassett.¹ Mary Elizabeth Hayes married William Patterson Jones, son of Rev. William Patterson Jones and Ursula Linderman, on 22 February 1857 at Evanston, Cook Co., IL.²

W.P. and Mary E. were enumerated in the 1880 Evanston, Cook Co., IL, federal census. He was an editor, age 49, she was 46. Children in the household were Lydia, 20, and William 18.

Mary was Lady Principal of N. W. female college (later Woman's college of Northwestern University, Evanston, IL 1855-1862).

William was US. Consul at Macao, Amoy and Canton, China 1862-63. President of Northwestern University in 1883; Associate Editor, Chicago Inter-Ocean.

     Edward Hayes was born on 8 October 1835 at CT.¹ He was the son of Rev. Gordon Hayes and Mary Dewey Fassett.¹ Edward Hayes married Alice Morrell on 3 January 1871 at Augusta, IL.² Edward Hayes married Charlotte A. Lane, daughter of Josiah Lane and Catherine C. Ball, on 11 April 1882 at Red Oak, Montgomery Co., IA.²

Edward was a lawyer and stock-reeder, Red Oak, IA. He studied at Yale University to junior year, class of 1857.

     John Hayes was born on 14 September 1837 at CT.¹ He was the son of Rev. Gordon Hayes and Mary Dewey Fassett.¹ John Hayes married Catherine C. Loomis, daughter of Samuel C. Loomis and Sarah Althea Edgerton, on 7 September 1870 at North Bennington, VT.^2,3

John and Kate were enumerated in the 1880 Red Oak, Montgomery Co., IA, federal census. He was in real estate, age 42, she was 31. Children in the household were Carleton 5, and Mary 2. Living next door were Kate's parents Samuel C. and Sarah.

     Daniel Hayes was born on 3 June 1842 at CT.¹ He was the son of Rev. Gordon Hayes and Mary Dewey Fassett.¹ Daniel Hayes married Alice Cornelia Warfield, daughter of David Robinson Warfield and Joanna Sternburger, on 26 November 1873 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.² Daniel Hayes died on 27 May 1917 at age 74.²

Daniel graduated from Knox College in Galesburgh, IL, in 1863; was a breeder of hourses and real estate agent at Low Run Stock Farm.

Daniel and Alice were enumerated in the 1900 Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA, federal census. He was 57, she was 56. Children in the household were Mary 22, Katherine A. 19, Alice W. 17, and Daniel Jr. 14.

     Lydia Maria Hayes was born on 25 November 1839 at CT.¹ She was the daughter of Rev. Gordon Hayes and Mary Dewey Fassett.¹ Lydia Maria Hayes married Rev. James Walter Waugh D.D. on 2 March 1859 at Evanston, Cook Co., IL.²

Lydia graduated from and taught at Female College, Northwestern University. She and James went to India as missionaries for their life work. Frances E. willard published in may 1873 a memoir of Lydia as school mate and devoted friend. ³

     Ada Stone (?) was born on 16 September 1838 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹ She married Charles Gordon Hayes, son of Rev. Gordon Hayes and Mary Dewey Fassett, on 16 September 1858 at Muscatine Creek, Muscatine Co., IA.¹

Ada was probably the daughter of L. H. and Catherine Stone, recorded in the 1850 Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA, federal census. She was listed as age 7.

     Fanny Fassett Hayes was born on 28 March 1860 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹ She was the daughter of Charles Gordon Hayes and Ada Stone (?).¹ Fanny Fassett Hayes married William B. Neyenesch.²

     Edward Gordon Hayes was born on 4 July 1862 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹ He was the son of Charles Gordon Hayes and Ada Stone (?).¹ Edward Gordon Hayes died in February 1880 at age 17.¹

     Lyle E. Coonrod was born circa 1922 at Ree Heights, Hand Co., SD.¹ He was the son of Elmer Coonrod and Ellen Lott.¹ Lyle E. Coonrod married Virginia Pearl Excell, daughter of Percy John Excell and Emma Caroline Stark, on 6 December 1941.¹ Lyle E. Coonrod died on 15 April 1945 at Germany.¹ He was buried at U. S. Military Cemetery, Margraten, Holland.¹

Private Lyle E. Coonrod was a member of the 47th Infantry, 9th Division, and is buried in the Netherlands.
