Willard A. Holcomb, 73, newspaper man, playwright and one of the best known press agents on Broadway a generation ago, died yesterday at his home, 51 Smith street, Merrick, after a long illness. He had been retired about 15 years.

Mr. Holcomb, a native of Chenango county, was graduated from Akron university, Akron, Ohio, and soon after his graduation joined the Washington Post, Washington D.C., where he wrote theatre reviews and subsequently became city editor. He left the Post to enter the theatre world and for many years he wrote plays, dramatized books and wrote vaudeville skits.

One of his best known dramatizations, which had a long run on Broadway and on the road, was made from the then popular novel, "St. Elmo." During this period he was associated with many of the best known theatre producers. He also acted as press agent for many famous stage folk, including the late Lou Tellegen and the late James K. Hackett. Mr. Holcomb returned to the Washington Post where he was drama editor for many years.

The family has lived on Long Island for about seven years and for three years in Merrick. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Florence Holcomb; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Coste of Merrick; a son, Wynn Holcomb of New York city; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Jones of Cleveland, Ohio, and three grandchildren, Julie and Pierre Coste, Jr., and Nona Gwynn Holcomb of New York.

     Florence M. Wynn was born on 20 December 1869 at Gorham, Fulton Co., OH.^1,2 She was the daughter of Solomon Cox Wynn and Cora Bell Obrist.¹ Florence M. Wynn married Willard Anselm Holcombe, son of Bradford F. Holcombe and Esther Matthews, on 23 April 1895 at Washington, DC.^1,2 Florence M. Wynn died on 28 November 1941 at Merrick, Nassau Co., NY, at age 71.²

     Helen Holcombe was born on 26 September 1896 at Washington, DC.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of Willard Anselm Holcombe and Florence M. Wynn.^1,2 Helen Holcombe married Harold Elliot Jenkens on 18 April 1918 at New York City, NY.² Helen Holcombe married Pierre Coste on 18 December 1928 at New York City, NY.² Helen Holcombe died on 30 October 1980 at Rhinebeck, Dutchess Co., NY, at age 84.^2,3

     Sarah (?) married Charles Loomis, son of Ensign Nathaniel Loomis and Ruth Porter.¹

     Amasa Loomis was born on 26 March 1745 at Bolton, Tolland Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Charles Loomis and Sarah (?).¹ Amasa Loomis married Ruth Hancock on 5 October 1780 at Springfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ Amasa Loomis died on 16 November 1815 at West Springfield, Hampden Co., MA, at age 70.¹

     Ruth Hancock was born on 24 April 1759.¹ She married Amasa Loomis, son of Charles Loomis and Sarah (?), on 5 October 1780 at Springfield, Hampden Co., MA.¹ Ruth Hancock died on 12 December 1851 at age 92.¹

     Marvin Loomis was born on 25 August 1795 at Feeding Hills, MA.^1,2 He was the son of Amasa Loomis and Ruth Hancock.¹ Marvin Loomis married Flavia Worthington in 1834.² Marvin Loomis died on 13 November 1842 at Feeding Hills, MA, at age 47.²

     Maj. Bruce Middleton Hope Shand was born on 22 January 1917.¹ He married Hon. Sonia Rosemary Keppel died on 16 August 1986 at age 86.¹

     Hon. George Keppel was born on 14 October 1865 at East Sheen, Surry, England.¹ He was the son of William Coutts Keppel 7th Earl of Albemarl and Sophia Mary MacNab.¹ Hon. George Keppel married Alice Frederica Edmonstone on 1 June 1891. Hon. George Keppel died on 22 November 1947 at London, England, at age 82.¹

     Alice Frederica Edmonstone was born on 29 April 1869 at Woolwich Dockyard, Kent, England.¹ She married Hon. George Keppel, son of William Coutts Keppel 7th Earl of Albemarl and Sophia Mary MacNab, on 1 June 1891. Alice Frederica Edmonstone died on 11 September 1947 at Italy at age 78.¹
