     Elisha Phelps was born circa 1722 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of William Phelps and (?) Moore.² Elisha Phelps married Elizabeth Holcombe, daughter of Joseph Holcombe and Mary Winchell, circa 1742.¹ Elisha Phelps died circa 1818 at Scipio, NY.¹

Mr. Phelps was a farmer, settled first in East Windsor, where his children were born, late in life removing to Scipio, NY, where some of his children had removed. He was a Revolutionary Soldier. ³

     William Phelps was born on 16 March 1702 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of William Phelps and Abigail Mudge.² William Phelps married (?) Moore.¹ William Phelps died in 1776 at Middlefield, CT.¹

     (?) Moore married William Phelps, son of William Phelps and Abigail Mudge.¹ (?) Moore died.

     Rev. Dr. Increase Mather was born on 21 June 1639 at Dorchester, Suffolk Co., MA.¹ He was the son of Rev. Richard Mather and Katherine Hoult.¹ Rev. Dr. Increase Mather died on 23 August 1723 at Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, at age 84.²

     Washington Carpenter was born circa 1836 at KY.¹ He was the son of Rev. John Carpenter and Elizabeth Horn.¹

     J. W. Carpenter was born circa 1844 at KY.¹ He was the son of Rev. John Carpenter and Elizabeth Horn.¹

     Lemuel Carpenter was born circa 1846 at KY.¹ He was the son of Rev. John Carpenter and Elizabeth Horn.¹

     Louisa Carpenter was born circa 1849 at KY.¹ She was the daughter of Rev. John Carpenter and Elizabeth Horn.¹

     Julia Ann Holcombe was born on 22 May 1837. She was the daughter of Chauncey Holcombe and Samantha Goddard. Julia Ann Holcombe married John Mather Mosely, son of James Mosely and Sophia Mather Phelps, on 19 January 1860 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Julia Ann Holcombe died on 3 April 1931 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, at age 93.

J. M. and Janna "Morsley" were enumerated in the 1880 Westfield, Hampden Co., MA, federal census, ED 295. He was a farmer age 56, she was 43. Children in the household were Carra A. 18, Arthur C. 16, James D. 12, and Anna I. 5


Julia A. was enumerated in the 1930 Westfield federal census in the household of her son Arthur. She was 93.

     Lola Winifred Holcombe was born on 13 October 1915.¹ She was the daughter of Franklin C. Holcombe and Jennie Jordan.¹ Lola Winifred Holcombe died on 15 October 1915.¹

Little Lola Winifred, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holcomb, was born on Wednesday, Oct 13th 1915, and two days later, on Friday evening, Oct. 15, 1915, the savior who said, "Let the little ones come unto me," took her unto himself into the kingdom above. A brief service was held at the home on Sunday afternoon at 2:00, conducted by Rev. Daschler. The beautiful flowers spoke louder than words the heartfelt sympathy of themany friends. May Our Heavenly Father bring comfort to these stricken hearts.

     Bessie Clara Powell was the daughter of Henry Powell.² Bessie Clara Powell married John Edward Holcombe, son of David Holcombe and Annie Appleby.¹ Bessie Clara Powell died on 9 January 1949 at Groton, SD.¹

     Harry E. Holcombe was born in May 1889 at Verdon, SD.^1,2,3 He was the son of John Edward Holcombe and Bessie Clara Powell.¹ Harry E. Holcombe died on 11 July 1944 at age 55.² He was buried at Wisconsin Memorial Park, WI.⁴

At the time of his father's death, Harry was living in Milwaukee.

Harry E. Holcomb, son of John and Bessie Holcomb, was born in Verdon, SD, in 1891, and grew to manhood on his father's farm. He passed away suddenly at his home at 6807 Terrace Court, Wauwtosa, July 11, at the age of 53 years. He was united in marriage to Miss Marie Kirshbaum of Sious City, Iowa. He was a member of Church of the Redeemer and the American Legion Post No. 1, having served in World War I. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Marie, and Verna dn Roy Holcomb; Mrs. Vera aged mother, Mrs. John Holcomb, Polzien of Charter Oak, Iowa and Hayes of Minnesota, and Phil of Groton, SD.


The funeral was held from the Church of the Redeemer on Friday at 2pm. He was in state at the funeral home of I.W. O'Boyle Co. Interment was at Wisconsin Memorial Park.

     George Thomas Blake was born in November 1856.² He married Florence Elizabeth Holcombe, daughter of David Holcombe and Annie Appleby.¹

     David Holcombe was born on 2 September 1930.¹ He was the son of Garth Holcombe and Hazel (?).¹ David Holcombe died on 23 April 1935 at struck by a truck at the Holcomb Coal Co. at age 4.¹

     Phillip John Holcombe was born on 9 October 1897 at Spink Co., SD.^1,2 He was the son of John Edward Holcombe and Bessie Clara Powell.¹ Phillip John Holcombe married Rose (?) circa 1917.³

Phil J. and Rose M. were enumerated in the 1920 Beotia, Spink Co., SD, federal census, ED 268. He was a farmer age 22, she was 19. Children in the household were Marvin J. 1 year 5 months, and Everett P. 0 months. Also in the household was brother Roy A., 25.


Phil and Rose were enumerated in the 1930 Beotia, Spink Co., SD, federal census, district 7. He was a farmer age 32, she was 29. Children in the household were Marvin 11, and Everett, 10. Brother Hayes, age 28 was also in the household.

      Hayes Holcombe was also known as Sidney Hayes Holcombe. He was born on 9 January 1901 at Spink Co., SD.¹ He was the son of John Edward Holcombe and Bessie Clara Powell.¹

     Rose (?) was born circa 1900 at SD.¹ She married Phillip John Holcombe, son of John Edward Holcombe and Bessie Clara Powell, circa 1917.¹

     Roy Egbert Holcombe was born on 22 November 1894 at Spink Co., SD.^1,2 He was the son of John Edward Holcombe and Bessie Clara Powell.¹

     Vera Holcombe was born on 5 October 1892 at Spink Co., SD.¹ She was the daughter of John Edward Holcombe and Bessie Clara Powell.¹

     Verna Ann Holcombe was born on 19 September 1899 at Spink Co., SD.¹ She was the daughter of John Edward Holcombe and Bessie Clara Powell.¹

     Genevieve Coutts was born in March 1893 at Canada.¹ She was the daughter of Clarence Lincoln Coutts and Jannette Holcombe.¹

     Callie May Coutts was born on 6 November 1897 at Spink Co., SD.¹ She was the daughter of Clarence Lincoln Coutts and Jannette Holcombe.¹

      Earl Ernest Blake was also known as Ernest Earl Blake. He was born on 25 February 1888 at Spink Co., SD.¹ He was the son of George Thomas Blake and Florence Elizabeth Holcombe.¹
