     Child Barber was born in 1677 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Child Barber was the child of Lt. Thomas Barber and Mary Phelps. Child Barber died young.

Carol Laun quotes the Hartford Courant that says that Lewis had lived in St. Louis, MO for three years. He had returned to Hartford to settle a lawsuit over a debt owed him by a Daniel F. Olcott and instead shot and killed Mr. Olcott and then turned the gun on himself.

Lewis Monroe Holcombe Sr. was born in 1815. He was the son of Ebenezer Seymour Holcombe and Almira Alderman. Lewis Monroe Holcombe Sr. married Mary Sheldon Hedges, daughter of Jospeh Hedges and Mary Avery, in December 1839. Lewis Monroe Holcombe Sr. died on 14 October 1846 at Gunshot-suicide, Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.

     Epaphras Alderman was born on 14 December 1760 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.^1,2 He was the son of Daniel Alderman and Thankful Griffin. Epaphras Alderman married Chloe Hayes, daughter of Judah Hayes and Honora Lambson, on 22 March 1781.² Epaphras Alderman died on 24 July 1853 at age 92.¹ He was buried at Center Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co., CT; Lot O-4.^2,3

The Alderman Genealogy lists Chloe as the daughter of Daniel Hayes. Carol Laun in the Burials in the Granby Center Cemetery lists Judah and Honora, based on the Hayes Genealogy, page 25.⁴

     Chloe Hayes was born on 13 March 1762.¹ She was the daughter of Judah Hayes and Honora Lambson. Chloe Hayes married Epaphras Alderman, son of Daniel Alderman and Thankful Griffin, on 22 March 1781.² Chloe Hayes died on 5 April 1834 at age 72.¹

     Mary Sheldon Hedges was born circa 1820. She was the daughter of Jospeh Hedges and Mary Avery. Mary Sheldon Hedges married Lewis Monroe Holcombe Sr., son of Ebenezer Seymour Holcombe and Almira Alderman, in December 1839. Mary Sheldon Hedges died on 12 April 1844 at Consumption, Westfield, Hampden Co., MA. She was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.

     Lewis Monroe Holcombe Jr. was born on 8 March 1841 at MA. He was the son of Lewis Monroe Holcombe Sr. and Mary Sheldon Hedges. Lewis Monroe Holcombe Jr. died on 26 May 1865 at Alexandria, VA, at age 24. He was buried on 27 May 1865 at Military Cemetery; No. 3056, Alexandria, Alexandria Co, VA.

Lewis Jr. was raised by his grandparents following the early death of his mother and father.

He enlisted in the 16th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment 28 July 1862, mustered 24 August 1862. Based on these dates he may have served at Antietam.

He was captured at Plymouth, NC, 20 April 1864, and sent to Andersonville and became desperately ill. He was paroled 28 February 1865 and went home following Sherman's march and was nursed back to health only to return to his unit and die three days later.

The National Park Service database of the Andersonville Prison, shows that Lewis was a private in the 16th CT Regiment, Company E, Infantry. He was captured April 20, 1864 in Plymouth, NC.

A letter of leave reads: To all whom it may concern. The bearer here of Lewis M. Holcomb, Private of E Company of the 16th Regiment of Conn Infantry, aged 23 years, 5 feet 8 inches high, ight complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, and by profession a Farmer, born in the State of Massachusetts, and enlisted at Granby in the State of Connecticut on the 28th day of July 1862 to serve for the period of three years, is hereby permitted to go to Granby . . . he having received a furlough from the 16th day of December 1864 to the 15th day of January 1865, at which period he will rejoin his station at Camp Parole, MD or wherever it then may be, or be considered a deserter.

     John Mansfield was born in 1648.¹ He married Sarah Pinney, daughter of Humphrey Pinney and Mary Hull, on 13 December 1683 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Sarah Pinney was born on 19 November 1648 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Humphrey Pinney and Mary Hull. Sarah Pinney married William Phelps, son of William Phelps Sr. and Mary (?), on 20 December 1676 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. Sarah Pinney married John Mansfield on 13 December 1683 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.² Sarah Pinney died on 26 October 1732 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 83.²

     Deaf, died unmarried. Oscar Phelps was born on 13 February 1829 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Silas Phelps II and Julia A. Holcombe.

     Charles F. Phelps was born on 17 September 1835 at Vernon, Trumbull Co., OH. He was the son of Silas Phelps II and Julia A. Holcombe. Charles F. Phelps died on 19 June 1885 at age 49.

      Zervah Lawrence was also known as Jeruah Lawrence. She was born on 20 May 1754. She was the daughter of Lt. Samuel Lawrence. Zervah Lawrence married Edward Case, son of Sgt. Richard Case and Mercy Holcombe, circa 1774. Zervah Lawrence died on 24 February 1832 at age 77.

     Solomon Case Jr. was born on 17 June 1771 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Solomon Case and Anna Case. Solomon Case Jr. married Chloe Case, daughter of Edward Case and Zervah Lawrence, on 12 January 1797 at First Congregational Church, Canton, Hartford Co., CT. Solomon Case Jr. died on 28 January 1831 at age 59. He was buried at Hopmeadow Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

     Chloe Case was born on 2 February 1780 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Edward Case and Zervah Lawrence. Chloe Case married Solomon Case Jr., son of Solomon Case and Anna Case, on 12 January 1797 at First Congregational Church, Canton, Hartford Co., CT. Chloe Case died on 22 March 1847 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 67. She was buried at Hopmeadow Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

     Asahel Leverett Case was born on 30 May 1816 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Solomon Case Jr. and Chloe Case. Asahel Leverett Case married Malinda Case, daughter of Abel Case Jr. and Rachel Humphrey, on 3 October 1837 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT. Asahel Leverett Case died on 5 March 1879 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 62. He was buried in March 1879 at Hopmeadow Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

     Malinda Case was born on 25 March 1817 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Abel Case Jr. and Rachel Humphrey. Malinda Case married Asahel Leverett Case, son of Solomon Case Jr. and Chloe Case, on 3 October 1837 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT. Malinda Case died on 14 January 1888 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 70. She was buried at Hopmeadow Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

     Wheeler Marshall Case was born on 27 May 1845 at West Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Asahel Leverett Case and Malinda Case. Wheeler Marshall Case married Annie Cordelia Brockett, daughter of James Everlin Brockett and Sarah Cordelia Case, on 30 April 1868 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Wheeler Marshall Case died on 24 April 1927 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 81.

Wheeler was recorded in the 1900 Simsbury census, district 217, page 16B, line 57, with Annie and three children, and sister Elfreda Adeline.

He was recorded in the 1920 Simsbury census, district 182, page 7B, line 89, with Annie and son Wallace and his wife Adelaide.

     Annie Cordelia Brockett was born on 23 September 1846. She was the daughter of James Everlin Brockett and Sarah Cordelia Case. Annie Cordelia Brockett married Wheeler Marshall Case, son of Asahel Leverett Case and Malinda Case, on 30 April 1868 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Annie Cordelia Brockett died on 28 September 1941 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 95.

     Sarah Cordelia Case was born on 7 February 1822 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Horatio Gates Case and Hepzibah Cornish. Sarah Cordelia Case married James Everlin Brockett, son of George Hamilton Brockett and Lydia Moses, on 6 May 1845 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Sarah Cordelia Case died on 17 January 1898 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 75.

     James Everlin Brockett was born on 29 June 1824 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of George Hamilton Brockett and Lydia Moses. James Everlin Brockett married Sarah Cordelia Case, daughter of Horatio Gates Case and Hepzibah Cornish, on 6 May 1845 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. James Everlin Brockett died on 14 September 1884 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 60.

     Nellie Freedie Case was born on 24 May 1871 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Wheeler Marshall Case and Annie Cordelia Brockett. Nellie Freedie Case married Arthur Edmund Humphrey, son of John Calvin Edmund Humphrey and Mary Elvira Kimball, on 16 September 1891 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Nellie Freedie Case was a member at NSDAR; 8340, Washington, DC. She died on 27 August 1954 at age 83.

     Arthur Edmund Humphrey was born on 28 January 1864 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of John Calvin Edmund Humphrey and Mary Elvira Kimball. Arthur Edmund Humphrey married Nellie Freedie Case, daughter of Wheeler Marshall Case and Annie Cordelia Brockett, on 16 September 1891 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Arthur Edmund Humphrey died on 20 April 1929 at age 65.

Arthur E. and Nellie were recorded in the 1920 Simsbury census, ED 183, Page 5B, line 78, with son Harold.

     John Calvin Edmund Humphrey was born on 7 May 1841 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Benajah Humphrey and Olive Goodwin.² John Calvin Edmund Humphrey married Mary Elvira Kimball, daughter of Luke Kimball and Eunice Chidsey, on 30 June 1861 at Cheshire, CT.

     Mary Elvira Kimball was born on 13 November 1839. She was the daughter of Luke Kimball and Eunice Chidsey. Mary Elvira Kimball married John Calvin Edmund Humphrey, son of Benajah Humphrey and Olive Goodwin, on 30 June 1861 at Cheshire, CT.

     Peter Orsamus Buell was born on 30 October 1801 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Peter Frederick Buell and Rosanna Case. Peter Orsamus Buell married Irene Dexter, daughter of Nathan Dexter and Irene French, on 23 October 1834 at Manchester, Hartford Co., CT. Peter Orsamus Buell died on 14 March 1858 at age 56.

Ian MacLaughlin, ian@spawar.navy.mil, has provided some additional information on Peter's descendants that he found in Albert Welles' History of the Buell Family on page 337, and the photo of the gravestones.

     Irene Dexter was born say 1810. She was the daughter of Nathan Dexter and Irene French. Irene Dexter married Peter Orsamus Buell, son of Peter Frederick Buell and Rosanna Case, on 23 October 1834 at Manchester, Hartford Co., CT. Irene Dexter died on 2 September 1882; per the gravestone.

     Anna C. Holcombe was born on 2 August 1860 at CT. She was the daughter of Chauncey Dayton Holcombe and Hannah Irene Buell. Anna C. Holcombe was a member at NSDAR; 15995, Washington, DC. She died on 12 April 1941 at age 80. She was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.²

     Sylvanus Humphrey was born on 17 February 1735/36 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Charles Humphrey and Hepzibah Pettibone. Sylvanus Humphrey married Charity Pettibone, daughter of John Pettibone and Damaris Humphrey, on 22 September 1763. Sylvanus Humphrey died on 14 January 1776 at age 39.

     Ruth Duncan lists a 2nd marrige for Charity to Elisha Cornish Jr. in 1776, but on page 20 of her book she shows that the same Elisha married Sarah Case who died in 1827, and had her last child in 1786. Charity Pettibone was born on 30 June 1744 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of John Pettibone and Damaris Humphrey. Charity Pettibone married Sylvanus Humphrey, son of Charles Humphrey and Hepzibah Pettibone, on 22 September 1763. Charity Pettibone married Amasa Case, son of Capt. James Case and Esther Fithian, on 14 June 1799 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Charity Pettibone died on 25 October 1803 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 59.

     Joseph Luther Case was born on 1 October 1806 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Solomon Case Jr. and Chloe Case. Joseph Luther Case married Eliza Proserpine Bidwell, daughter of Norman Bidwell and Philla Hills, on 21 September 1831 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Joseph Luther Case married Malvina Hannah Case, daughter of Abel Case Jr. and Rachel Humphrey, on 6 July 1869. Joseph Luther Case died on 8 September 1888 at Mecca, OH, at age 81.

     Eliza Proserpine Bidwell was born on 13 November 1805 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Norman Bidwell and Philla Hills. Eliza Proserpine Bidwell married Joseph Luther Case, son of Solomon Case Jr. and Chloe Case, on 21 September 1831 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Eliza Proserpine Bidwell died on 2 September 1866 at Mecca, OH, at age 60.

     Norman Bidwell was the son of Capt. Thomas Bidwell and Esther Orton.

     Thomas served as ensign at the Lexington Alarm and as Captain to repel the enemy in the invasion of Tryon. Capt. Thomas Bidwell was born in 1738 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT. He died in 1802 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.

     Adelaide Eliza Case was a member at NSDAR; 25580, Washington, DC. She was born on 11 June 1844. She was the daughter of Joseph Luther Case and Eliza Proserpine Bidwell. Adelaide Eliza Case married George Benson Woodworth, son of Hiram A. Woodworth and Emeline Joslyn.

     George Benson Woodworth was the son of Hiram A. Woodworth and Emeline Joslyn. George Benson Woodworth married Adelaide Eliza Case, daughter of Joseph Luther Case and Eliza Proserpine Bidwell.

     Dianthe Case was born in 1778 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Solomon Case and Anna Case.
