     Hyman Holcombe was born circa 1805 at Bristol, Addison Co., VT.¹ He was the son of Noah Holcombe II and Betsy Cadwell. Hyman Holcombe married Betsey (?).

     Lucius Holcombe was born circa 1807 at Bristol, Addison Co., VT.¹ He was the son of Noah Holcombe II and Betsy Cadwell. Lucius Holcombe married Sally (?).¹

It is apparently Lucius that was enumerated in the 1830 Bristol, Addison Co., VT, federal census with a wife and daughter under 5. They were living next to Noah Jr. and Norman.


It is apparently this Lucius that was enumerated in the 1850 Bristol, Addison Co., VT, federal census. He was a laborer, age 42, born in VT. He was apparently married to Sally, age 44, born in VT. Children enumerated in the household were Delia Ann 20, Corrina 17, Harriett 14, Mary 12, and Elvira 8. Also enumerated in the household was brother Hyman 44 and apparently his wife Betsey 39.


Lucius was enumerated in the 1860 Lincoln, Addison Co., VT, federal census. He was a laborer, age 51. Sally had apparently died as she was not enumerated, but children Harriet 24, Mary 22, and Elvira 18 were.


Lucius was enumerated in the 1870 Lincoln, Addison Co., VT, federal census. He was a farm laborer, age 60 in the household of Elisha Clark.

     Ralsamon Holcombe was born at Bristol, Addison Co., VT. He was the son of Noah Holcombe II and Betsy Cadwell.

     Abigail (?) married Lt. John Buttolph, son of Thomas Buttolph and Ann Harding, on 27 June 1682 at "Missing Place" no. 4730. Abigail (?) died on 5 June 1687.

     Susanna Clark was the daughter of James Clark. Susanna Clark married Lt. John Buttolph, son of Thomas Buttolph and Ann Harding.

     Isaac Beal Deeter was born on 24 September 1839.² He married Susan Lavinia Alderman, daughter of Timothy Alderman II and Susan L. Willmarth, on 25 December 1871.¹ Isaac Beal Deeter died on 25 January 1879 at age 39.²

     Benjamin Dibble was the son of Abraham Dibble.

     Abraham Dibble was the son of Robert Dibble.

     Mehitabel (?) was born. She married Benoni Buttolph, son of Dr. Jonathan Buttolph and Martha Holcombe. Mehitabel (?) died on 5 March 1808.

     Mary Buttolph was born. She was the daughter of Dr. Jonathan Buttolph and Elizabeth Cornish.

     Lucy Buttolph was born. She was the daughter of Dr. Jonathan Buttolph and Elizabeth Cornish.

     Martha Adams was born on 30 September 1713 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Thomas Adams and Martha Buttolph. Martha Adams married Isaac Barber, son of John Barber and Mary Holcombe, on 17 April 1735 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Martha Adams died in 1794 at Barkhamsted, Litchfield Co., CT.

     Mary Adams was born on 20 June 1715 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Thomas Adams and Martha Buttolph.

     Hezekiah Adams married Lydia (?). Hezekiah Adams was born on 13 August 1725 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Thomas Adams and Martha Buttolph.

     Lydia (?) married Hezekiah Adams, son of Thomas Adams and Martha Buttolph. Lydia (?) died on 16 November 1760.

     Silence Buttolph married William Mather, son of Atherton Mather and Rebecca Stoughton. Silence Buttolph was born on 21 February 1701 or 1702 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Sgt. David Buttolph and Mary Buck.

     Atherton Mather was born on 4 October 1663.² He was the son of Timothy Mather and Catherine Elizabeth Atherton. Atherton Mather married Rebecca Stoughton on 20 September 1694 at Suffield, Hartford Co., CT.² Atherton Mather died on 9 November 1734 at age 71.²

     William Mather married Silence Buttolph, daughter of Sgt. David Buttolph and Mary Buck. William Mather was born on 2 March 1698 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Atherton Mather and Rebecca Stoughton.

     Rebecca Stoughton was born on 19 June 1673.¹ She married Atherton Mather, son of Timothy Mather and Catherine Elizabeth Atherton, on 20 September 1694 at Suffield, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Rebecca Stoughton died in 1704.¹

     Temperance Buttolph was born on 12 July 1713 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Sgt. David Buttolph and Mary Buck.

     Died intestate; he adopted his nephew Milton, parents not identified. David Buttolph was born on 2 August 1732 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of David Buttolph and Mary Holcombe. David Buttolph died on 19 January 1814 at Northeast, Dutchess Co., NY, at age 81.

     Roger was a private in Capt. Silas Goodroch's company from Berkshire Co., conn; said to have participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill, settled in Great Barrington, Mass., but not found in the VR thereof. McCracken references DAR LB 35:2. Roger Buttolph was born on 4 October 1734. He was the son of David Buttolph and Mary Holcombe.

     Latham Buttolph was the son of Roger Buttolph and Mary Gardner. Latham Buttolph married Martha Holcombe.

     Martha Holcombe married Latham Buttolph, son of Roger Buttolph and Mary Gardner.

     John Buttolph was the son of Latham Buttolph and Martha Holcombe. John Buttolph was also known as John Buttles.

     John A. Buttolph was the son of John Buttolph and Louise Frasier. The DAR records of Olive Buttles Martin, #34003, indicate that John A. is the son of Hiram and Olive Dickinson, other records show them as brothers. Olive probably knows who her father and grandfather were.

     Olive Buttolph was born at Burlington, Des Moines Co., IA. She was the daughter of John A. Buttolph and Mary Augusta Rice. Olive Buttolph married George Hamilton Martin.

     George Hamilton Martin married Olive Buttolph, daughter of John A. Buttolph and Mary Augusta Rice.

     McCracken notes that Lucinda was missed by Stiles. Lucinda Buttolph was born. She was the daughter of David Buttolph and Mary Holcombe. Lucinda Buttolph was baptized on 1 June 1740 at Wintonbury, Hartford Co., CT.

     McCracken's discussion of Elijah's wives is extensive:

Elijah resided Canaan and Salisbury, Conn., before moving to Vt. He certainly m. twice, perhaps thrice, and if so, the third wife was named Ruth and nothig more is known of her. Nothing his known of the first wife except that the claim that the second wife was a Reyburn cannot be substantiated and this may be really true of the first wife. Stiles says that he m. at Norfolk, Conn., in Feb. 1780, Deborah Rayburn, widow of Joseph Plumly. Information on this family came to Stiles from Jonathan Buttolph of Iowa Falls, Iowa, a son of George (1755-1820), a person not discovered by McCracken, but in the errata this is listed as error, though what is true is not stated. Katie R. Mills' Mills Genealogy pp. 27f. itentifies the 2nd wife as Deborah Field, b. 13 march 1765, m. (1) March 1776 (a very early age), Norfolk, Conn., Joseph Plumly (d. there Oct. 1778). She was dau. of Ebenezer Field Jr. (1706-1783) by his 3rd wife Hannah Mills (John, Simon) and Hannah Adams. Miss Mills says Elijah moved to Vermont in 1786 and in 1790 he was of Middlebury, Vt. in 1791 (4/4/4). There were two Plumly children: Abigail, b. 1777, m. 1801 John Austin Sumner; Joseph, bur. Norfolk, Conn., 1779. Elijah Buttolph was born at Wintonbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of David Buttolph and Mary Holcombe. Elijah Buttolph was baptized on 16 May 1742 at Wintonbury, Hartford Co., CT. He married Deborah Field, daughter of Ebenezer Field Jr. and Hannah Mills, in February 1780. Elijah Buttolph died on 23 February 1835 at Middlebury, VT.

     Deborah Field was born on 13 March 1765. She was the daughter of Ebenezer Field Jr. and Hannah Mills. Deborah Field married Elijah Buttolph, son of David Buttolph and Mary Holcombe, in February 1780.
