     Capt. James Cornish was born on 30 October 1694. He was the son of Deacon James Cornish and Elizabeth Thrall. Capt. James Cornish married Amy Butler, daughter of Thomas Butler, on 9 December 1719. Capt. James Cornish died on 22 March 1784 at age 89.

James was a farmer, and resided in Simsbury, Ct., where he was one of the leading citizens. His military title was obtained through his connection with the old colonial militia or train bands, being commissioned by vote of the Connecticut General Assembly as Captain.

Cornish notes: this date of birth is taken from information received from his great-grandson, Tabor Ward Cornish, there being none on the Windsor, Ct., records, in which town he was undoubtedly born.
