Oliver Leggett Holcombe was born on 28 December 1835 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.² He was the son of Lemuel Holcombe and Louisa Augusta Bowe.² Oliver Leggett Holcombe married Annis Samantha Griffin, daughter of Gilbert Griffin and Harriet Newell Viets, on 2 March 1863. Oliver Leggett Holcombe died in May 1899 at age 63. He was buried at Granby Center Cemetery; I-178., Granby, Hartford Co., CT.³

Oliver and Annie had three daughters that all died at birth and are buried with them in the Granby Center Cemetery, born and died on 3 Mar 1864, 13 Feb 1866, and 22 Nov 1867.

Dorothy Viets Schell in her Viets Genealogy, page 111, shows that Oliver's mother was Louisa Legett. However, original hand written records at the Salmon Brook Historical, checked by Carol Laun in February 2000, indicate that he was, in fact, son of Louise A. Bowe. The record is written very clearly.

Oliver and Annis were enumerated in the 1870 Granby, Hartford Co., CT, census. He was a farm laborer age 34, Annis was 28. Also enumerated was Hattie, age 1.

Clifton and Ella are enumerated in the 1880 Granby, Hartford Co., CT, census, with son Cecil. He is a farmer and his parents are living with them.

A drummer volunteering in Capt. Caleb Hendee's Co., recruited there Sept. 9, 1814 to resist the invasion at Plattsburgh, NY, being engaged in the battle there during the 8 days he served, for which service his widow, Verona, was pensioned. he was a farmer of Isle-La-Motte, VT; is recorded in the 1850 census of Chateagugay, Franklin Co., NY, as a farmer. Death is also reported by suicide February 13, 1869.

Eli D. Holcomb settled in Isle LaMotte (Grand Isle County, VT) where he remained the rest of his life. He was a farmer of 45 acres (Chld's Gaz. & Business Directory, 1883). In 1853 he built a one and half story house, south of Isle LaMotte "Corners" on the east side of the "Marsh Road". This house is known as the "Holcomb Homested" still stands across the road from the original log cabin (now long gone) where Ephriam H. Holcomb (his father, had) settled."
