     Catherine Anginette Holcombe was born circa 1837. She was the daughter of Chandler Holcombe and Juliett Moore. Catherine Anginette Holcombe married Robert Burns Alchin on 21 July 1858 at Rockford, Winnebago Co., IL. Catherine Anginette Holcombe died in 1872.

Robert and "Nettie" were enumerated in the 1860 Rockford, Winnebago Co., IL, federal census. He was a master shoe maker, age 28, she was 23. the only child in the household was Nellie 1. Catherine's mother Juliett, age 39, was also in the household. Catherine was again enumerated in the 1870 Rockford census. She was 32; children in the household were Nellie 11, Robert 8, and Edith 6.

Robert Alchin served in the Civil War for Illinois and mentioned in one of his letters home having heard from his brother-in-law Monreo Holcomb. Robert returned from the war and resumed his peacetime occupation, but by the 1870 census he was dead, leaving a widow and three young children. Their mother Catherine was employed as a schoolteacher, and she and her mother shared the responsibility for the children. Then in the summer of 1872, the Grim Reaper appeared again and Catherine succumbed. Now Juliet Holcomb, age 54, was the sole support and protector of her grandchildren.

Louisa Viets, daughter of Dan Viets and Beula Phelps, on 3 July 1845 at Troy, NY.5 Lemuel Holcombe died on 9 September 1894 at Springfield, MA, at age 85. He was buried at Granby Center Cemetery; I-178, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.6

Lemuel is recorded with family and mother in the 1850 census of Granby, Hartford Co., CT as a farmer.

Lemuel and Mary are enumerated in the 1860 Granby, Hartford Co., CT, census with Oliver, Lorenzo, Louisa, and Clifton in the household.

The families of Jabez and Sophia appear twice in Bowman. Here as son of Elijah and Violet Cornish, then also as son of Martin and Christian Winchell.

McPherson does not confuse the two families; Jabez the son of Martin married only Anna Hosmer. Jabez the son of Elijah, only married Sophia Goddard.
