from an obituary published 24 January, 2005:

LUCKEY - Earl K. Holcomb, 86, former co-owner with his wife of Holcomb Funeral Home here, died Thursday at Grace Living Center in Edmond, Okla. His family did not know the cause of death.
Mr. Holcomb, a Gibsonburg native, worked at a funeral home in Monroe in the 1960s before he and his wife moved in 1963 to Luckey, where they purchased the funeral home from J.H. Landwehr, and Mr. Holcomb became funeral director.

He and his wife, Dorothy, worked at the funeral home until retiring in 1983. They moved to Arizona a few years later and to Oklahoma about six years ago. Mrs. Holcomb died in 2003.
His daughter-in-law, Donna Holcomb, said he was very well-known in Luckey and the surrounding area during his years as funeral director and enjoyed meeting and visiting with friends.
"He was very outgoing and had a good sense of humor," she said.

She said her father-in-law also served on the board of directors of a nursing home in the Pemberville area. His hobbies included playing golf and watching football and, in later years, drawing and sculpting.
"He was a wonderful artist," she said, adding that he loved to do pencil and charcoal sketches of people, including his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Holcomb served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Troy Webster American Legion Post No. 240 in Luckey. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Luckey, and past president and member of the Luckey Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are his sons, Terry and Scott; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held Tuesday, with burial in the Troy Township Cemetery. Marsh Funeral Home, Luckey, is handling arrangements.
