Nathan graduated at Yale, in 1742, studied divinity with Rev. John Graham of Southbury, Ct; settled at Coventry, Ct., Oct. 9, 1745, pastor of the Second Congregational Church. He is described as "a man of acute penetration of mind and of solid judgment, and a man of great prudence and very successful in quieting disturbances in sister churches." He could not bear the thought of being forgotten by his descendants, and had a portrait of himself painted for each of his surviving children which are now in good preservation among their descendants. For the same reason he left a small legacy to each of his grandchildren living at his death.2
